Giovanna Battaglia Straight From The Hip

Sarah Mower penned an article titled "Straight From The Hip" for the March issue of Vogue US and Giovanna Battaglia is among the illustrative subjects. Mower theorizes that "a new crop of models and fashion professionals are influencing designers and the public with their distinctive personal style" and naturally Gio made her list. Each model styled herself for the shoot and Giovanna chose a button down shirt by Chloé in classic white and a wraparound skirt by Proenza Schouler in electrifying hues of blue. Tabitha Simmons styled the editorial with Norman Jean Roy shooting, other models selected were Lily Donaldson, Chanel Iman, Karlie Kloss, Sasha Pivovarova, Lauren Santo Domingo [pictured here with Giovanna also wearing Proenza Schouler paired with a jacket by Dolce & Gabbana], Jessica Stam, Vanessa Traina, and Daria Werbowy.

Those outfits are stunning!
Hi, Tracy! Yes, I love both outfits and I love PS! Did you watch the live broadcast of their show last week? The new looks are nice.
I like that short little black jacket!
oh this would be interesting to read...
Hi, Kate! It is the perfect accent for that dress, too.
Hi, Jane! You can read the article here.
Beautiful!!!
who makes gio's shoes? the heels are crazy good
hey..:) thanks
great question, chris. i don't know but hopefully someone out there does, who designed giovanna's killer heels?
Balenciaga SS10. I stumbled upon them again in AnOther mag..the shape of the heel grabbed my attention!
Sweet! Thank you for letting me know. They make her look tough, she has a serious "tribal prep" vibe here and the shoes bring the fierceness. Otherwise it would be too cutesy.
Now Kellina, you know how much I like Giovanna but her boot/shoe thingys are hideous! The white shirt/blue skirt combo is nice though. Disappointing photograph of her though - she looks rather annoyed.
Personally, the green dress and black mini-jacket with the hair pulled back are the type of thing Milla would wear. Fabulous!
Hi, Milla!
I must agree that I do prefer the outfit Lauren is wearing. I also agree that Gio's expression is a bit off here, maybe it just wasn't her day. Even the fashion elite have off days, right? They don't appear to but they are human...
Would love to see you rocking that PS dress, Milla!
I demand nothing but perfection from the fashion elite!
lol
Milla, the main asset of Gio's shoes is not that they are pretty, but that her legs are. The copious cuff material serves as an optimum optical illusion making her legs look long and skinny by comparison. You don't like even the heels? I do think we have entered the sort of Blade Runner/Mad Max era where women prance around looking quite a bit like giant insects.
Every detail about her shoe-boot-thingys is hideous. Don't like them at all. My feeling is that the beauty of such a woman is somehow damaged by such a fugly fashion mistake. It's all about taste and here, she has finished a nice ensemble off with something awful. Imagine if Lauren's stunning outfit had been finished off with a pair of Reebok!!
I don't like this Robocop/tribal look, it just doesn't work for me. Occasionally, with a very simple outfit you can finish off with show-stopping footwear, but if everything is extravagant, it just looks OTT.
lol, nice comparison, milla! yeah, i tried to defend her choice but they are a bit OTT...
as always, gio is beyond...love her style...
Hi, Andie! There is no denying that Giovanna is one of the few true originals when it comes to personal style.
so fierce!
love the pic, they are divine!!!
XX!!
hi, candy!
it is a fierce look, like a tribal warrior, hair pulled into the topknot, armor knotted around the waist, strange shoes to both distract and stomp the enemy!
; )
yet at the same time managing to be colorful and elegant, it takes a certain touch...
hi, srta a! i am so glad you stopped by and commented!
xx
