Roitfeld Walks In Secret Tom Ford Show

As you have probably heard by now, Tom Ford revealed his highly anticipated collection for women at a secret show in the intimacy of his Madison Avenue store yesterday. Perhaps best of all, Ford chose to unveil his collection by using famous celebrities, singers, and actresses rather than limiting himself to models. Certainly worst of all is the fact that he banned cameras at the show (other than Terry Richardson) so we have nary a glimpse of the goodness, though I did hear that Carine Roitfeld was wearing a black lace lingerie dress from Ford's Yves Saint Laurent era. Ford himself narrated the collection, introducing each model and describing every garment in detail as it graced the runway.

Modeling the sexy collection were Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Julianne Moore (the female lead in Ford's first film A Single Man) and her daughter, Liv Helen Freundlich, Lou Doillon, Emmanuelle Seigner, Natalia Vodianova, Chanel Iman, Stella Tennant, Rita Wilson, Daphne Guinness, Victoria Fernandez, Liya Kebede, Carolyn Murphy, Du Juan, Liu Wen, Karlie Kloss, Lakshmi Menon, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Freja Beha Erichsen (the face for Tom Ford Eyewear), Anja Rubik, Daria Werbowy, Karen Elson, Amber Valletta, Monika Jagaciak, Lauren Hutton, Joan Smalls, Marisa Berenson, Rachel Feinstein, Rinko Kikuchi, Lisa Eisner, Farida Khelfa, Edita Vilkeviciute, and Beyoncé Knowles.

Cathy Horyn of The New York Times gives us an idea of the clothes: “Sharp pantsuits in black silk or a leopard pattern, gorgeous black evening clothes with sheer blouses, corsets and maybe a shrug in shredded tulle, impeccable details like hammered gold jewellery, stilettos with ankle ties and seamed black stockings." The collection will be available at Tom Ford stores internationally in February.

Liya Kebede + Amber Valletta + Lauren Hutton + Stella Tennant + Rita Wilson = Perfection at Tom Ford. I cannot wait to see these photographs. Terry Richardson though. Really?

Carine's dress sounds divine. Oh where are the photos!?

I want to know why he thinks he can charge $495 for a basic cotton dress shirt?

Robert, I imagine that you are familiar with the law of supply and demand — because consumers of luxury will pay $495 for the quality and the care that is fundamental to the design and the production of even TF's basic cotton dress shirt.

Thanks so much for your comment, I checked out luxemag but the site seems quite finite...

; )

I undoubtedly understand the basics and fundamental elements that make up supply and demand... Yes, I will pay top-dollar for a well made product, but within reason.

I have been to his store on Madison Ave. and most of the things were quite lame (in my opinion). If you have the money $495 and $1,495 mean the same as $14.95 and $149.95 to an average consumer. There are better designers out there who’s quality is on the same level and less expensive.

It’s an interesting market strategy that he has taken being relatively new on his own and selling at such a high price. Somewhat reminds me of how Versace got so large when he started. It was because he used high profile celebrities to attract attention to the brand creating . The law of supply and demand. I suppose history repeats itself in one way or anther.

The website is under development and may never get finished, I have random concepts and ideas and sometimes they make it to reality or stay on the drawing board.

Most of my stuff is photography http://www.konradphoto.com/

Robert, I think you are answering your own question:

"If you have the money $495 and $1,495 mean the same as $14.95 and $149.95 to an average consumer."

Those consuming Tom Ford have the money and they like him therefore they buy from him. They may also be asked to model for him... Without having seen it, I believe his show was the ultimate in seduction and sales will be phenomenal.

Your photography is cool, thanks for sharing it.

Well, all I have to say is that Cathy Horyn's description of the collection makes me salivate. She makes it sound so insanely chic. I can't wait to see it!

14 septembre 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKate

Tantalizing, isn't it, Kate? Monsieur Ford surely knows how to create desire!

14 septembre 2010 | Registered Commenterkellina

He is smart for keeping it such a secret and creating the hype, I cannot wait to see the collection!

16 septembre 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTina @ goodiecloset

You said it, Tina, this is a very smart way to hype his collection. I hope the rumor is true that Ford will be the guest editor for the December/January issue of Vogue Paris and that we will get to see the clothes then. C'mon, Carine....
