Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld is a stunner whose glow seems to emanate from within. It is only natural to wonder what could be in her beauty arsenal that imparts such incandescence. What do you know, it turns out that Julia credits much of her luminosity to Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Radiant Touch Concealer. Ah yes, YSL Touche Éclat — who hasn’t heard of this cult favorite? Fashion magazine editors are fond of raving all about the wonders of this magic wand that supposedly transforms the tired look that comes from jet-setting around the globe and attending one too many glamorous cocktail parties. Just whip out your golden wand that is Touche Éclat, they gush, and voilà, a radiant, youthful glow is imparted. À la Julia. I had to get my little hands on this magic wand to test it for myself, so off to Sephora I ran. I have dark circles too, but not from jet-setting. Mine are the working-mama-hustling-her booty-off variety. I suspect that I might be one-upping Julia in the dark-circle department, but I am nonetheless hopeful about Touche Éclat’s magical properties.

Once home, I dutifully applied Touche Éclat according to the tiny instruction manual that comes inside the box. I swiped the wand under my eyes, in the corners of my nose, in the smile lines under my nose and what the heck, I even put it under my bottom lip. (I still don’t understand why under the bottom lip is such a crucial area for highlighter.) I peered into the mirror. Okay, so where is my glow? I’m supposed to glow like Julia. One new Touche Éclat is sold every 10 seconds. At $39 a pop, this is an impressive sell through. Quite impressive, I say, because that is the perfect example of the power of marketing in the cosmetics industry. And then the realization came, the reality struck home. Julia is 30 years old. And drinks freshly squeezed juice every day. I am sticking to my tried and true, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector for highlighting and Becca Stick Foundation for concealing. Mama’s getting her glow back.
