Roitfeld: Black, Brown, and Brava

Speaking of best dressed, I am so smitten with Carine Roitfeld's recent looks blending black and brown with complete aplomb. I consider it a challenge to combine brown with black tastefully but Carine does it with ease. The boots she is wearing here are killer, I love the way they lace up over the knee. The coat is by Prada and I like how the classic details are exaggerated ever so slightly.
Carine and Kate Moss are seated front row for the Yves Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2010 show last night and as you've probably heard, Kate's shirt left little to the imagination. For example, notice where eye level falls for the gentleman two seats down. He's not imagining things, it's his lucky day. Personally I'd rather look at Carine's boots. Kate is the face for YSL's new fragrance, Parisienne.
John Richmond just opened his first Paris boutique and Carine was on hand to help him celebrate his newest location. Situated on rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré, the flagship store is a physical expression of the brand's evolving philosophy including installations of art and new architecture. Other John Richmond stores are located in Kiev, Capri, Porto Cervo, and Milan.

Beautiful photographs!
Is that a Netflix DVD Carine is carrying in the 1st picture? ;)
Hi, Kate! I know, sooo beautiful. The coats and boots make the advent of colder weather bearable, non?
Hi, Michael! Yes, that's what it is, a Netflix package. Being so busy at Cannes, she's probably never had a chance to watch Antichrist. Just kidding, not out on DVD yet!

I wonder why La Roitfeld tends to double-cross her legs like that. Is it a kind of exercise? Is it a yardstick to let her know she hasn't gained weight? Is it just because it is girlish and cute? Is it an expression of tension caused by strong desire for a cigarette?
Kips, thank you for posing your excellent question.
The unique way in which Carine crosses her legs has fascinated me since I first noticed it. My best guess is that above all she knows how to position herself to best effect. Your eyes are drawn to one of her sexiest features—her legs—because they look unusual, almost like an Egon Schiele painting in which the viewer is more conscious of the human limbs because of their abrupt angles and edges.
If you try sitting this way yourself, you will also feel the way it minimizes the thigh area that touches the chair making it appear thinner (particularly relative to those seated adjacent that are allowing their thighs to spread normally on the chair).
For the record, I have read that Carine does not smoke but her partner does and she likes the smell of tobacco on fingers. In fact, she recently made a statement that she wants to feature fewer models smoking in Vogue Paris and that cigarettes are bad for the overall health and ruin teeth.
Notice that she has influenced Kate Moss to sit identically next to her, conscious or no?
I am totally LOVING the Kate and Carine leg crossing pic!! It's totally perfect!
Perfect is right!! And the more I see those perfect boots the more I think they must make the wearer totally invincible!! I completely want a pair for myself. I still don't know who designed them yet, do you?
I'll answer my own question—apparently they are Louboutin. I noticed the red heel but I had read that Carine never wears the brand so I was uncertain; now I've read that the boots are indeed Louboutin in a number of places.
What's her reason for not wearing a brand the world covets... I wonder..
When I first heard that Carine does not wear Louboutins it made sense to me because she prefers not to show labels or brand marks on her clothing and accessories. The distinctive red sole of the Louboutin shoe distinguishes the brand on every pair so I assumed that she avoided them because they violated her code. In this case, I think she made an informed exception to her rule!

all women need to respect them.
indeed respect is key.
