Carine Roitfeld: Néo-Moderne

The French Glamour piece shown here, "Néo-moderne," is generally considered one of the more influential editorials styled by Carine Roitfeld. Featuring Nadja Auermann (then 23) against the chic backdrop of Carine's own Parisian apartment with photography by Mario Testino, this editorial is famous for uniting Roitfeld and Testino with Tom Ford. The Gucci loafers that Carine chose for the shoot caught the eye of Ford, then creative director of Gucci, bringing together one of the sexiest troikas in fashion history. "Néo-moderne" was originally published in French Glamour in 1994 but has a remarkable timeless quality, I would wear anything pictured here.

The clothes are timeless! Carine's home looks unoccupied, which is my favourite style of decor...a true minimalist!

Isn't she a beauty, Kate? One of the few women that makes me wish I was blond. Deneuve and Bardot being the other two.

Mon plaisir, LCT ! I am glad you found something new in something old.

Well said, Maya! This classic editorial is like the sparkle of a true gem amongst tacky costume jewelry.

I am enamored of her minimalist decor as well, Cupcake, and I now strive to be as free in my environment.

Kellina, I do agree with you again! We are on the same wavelength sometimes, it's unbelievable.

Kate, too funny! Do you remember your reference to the fashion in Belle de jour?

That is when I knew we were kindred spirits.

Haha, there is another Maya, how cool is that! I find these pictures timeless and I like Carine's flat, it is very unique. Nadja is great here.

I know, Maya! Isn't that cool? When I first saw her comment I thought maybe it was you finally revealing your blog address.

; )

Happy to hear that you like the pix of Nadja as well as Carine's flat, très très chic, bien sûr.

There you go again, Kellina, with the "kindred spirits"--how I also love Anne with an "E" !! Ha ha ha, stop, stop, I say! It's too much! :)

Kate, you've actually lost me with your Anne reference so not to worry!

Nice point, Red Umbrella Chronicles, props to Mario are long overdue here.

Thank you and welcome back, Cigalechanta! I hope your computer is feeling better. Julia Restoin-Roitfeld's height is 170.18 cm or 5 feet, 7 inches. (People search for this data all the time and I had not figured out a clever way to include it so I will write it here, thanks for a great question!)

Ahhhhhh! Got it!

I remember perfectly well those stunning pictures. That first edition of french Glamour was great. Unfortunely they stopped it to make an other one more commercial.

Isabelle, I am jealous that you saw this article in print, quelle chance ! The photos are indeed stunning as you noted and I love that Carine opened up her home to all of us for this shoot, very generous. I am sorry to hear about the decline of French Glamour, I have never actually seen a copy.
