Like Mother, Like Daughter: Take 2

It is hard to believe that I have drawn a parallel between the outfits of mother and daughter duo Carine Roitfeld and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld only once before on the site but so it is. In the post Like Mother, Like Daughter, Carine and Julia were both photographed wearing a gorgeous top designed by Christopher Kane and each has styled the garment in her own likeness.
This reference is a bit different in that the two women are not wearing the exact same piece here, they just strongly resemble one another — legs encased in black leather, top reminiscent of a wild animal, hair tousled seductively. Carine is wearing boots, dress, and jacket by Martin Margiela; I can only identify Julia's Miu Miu bag. Let me know if you know who she is wearing... What do you think, can you see a family resemblance here?

I totally agree with your analysis and can see resemblance. The treatment of their hair is the same, nature and a little bit wild. Same for the make up, nude with a focus on black eye shadows...And of course the heels I think I never same without flat shoes...
Merci bien, Madame M! You are right about the makeup also being done similarly, nice point. Ouai, toujours les talons !
Carine looks like Trinity from The Matrix in that pix. I like.
LOL, good one, Michael.
Yes, but Carine is inherently edgier. Her daughter is beautiful in her own feminine way.
Kate, you are right as always!! Happy birthday to my best blog friend, woo hoo!!!! I hope your day is wonderful.
The items may break down to be similar (on second thought are they in fact similar? A fur coat and a tuxedo jacket are inherently different and one is obviously an evening ensemble while the other is quite rugged/ outdoors), but the effect is way different. Carine looks sharp and 'edgy' as Kate says, but Julia merely looks pretty and dressed. Not the same category at all.
Thank you for the birthday wishes, Kellina!!! Fine wine, baby, fine wine. Anyhoo... yes Carine & Julia are dressed similarly but they are different women. So the effect is different. Hmmm... I think I just thought of a new blog topic! LOL!!
both stylish and cool. Fashion must be in their DNA I guess! :)

DG, as I stated in my original thesis I don't think they look exactly alike here, simply that they bear a strong resemblance to one another. They are clearly different women with different looks! Carine will always be more edgy and Julia will always be more feminine even wearing the exact same piece (for example, the Christopher Kane top). I just think there is a likeness in the two here, not an exactness and I especially like seeing them both with long black leather legs, it appeals to the dom in me.
; )
Kate, love that this discussion may have inspired a new topic for the blog! Each of the two women definitely projects her own spirit in any outfit she chooses to wear, that is undeniable. Can't wait to read your new post!!
: D
I know, LadyLindy! Style comes to each of these gorgeous women so naturally, it must be the DNA!
: )
Oh man, Carine looks incredible in this photo!!!! I'd love to do an experiment: they should swap their outfits. Would love to see that! Can you please arrange it, Kellina ? ;-)
Ha ha! Great concept, Amina! Would that I could oblige your request but alas...
; )
totally LOVE those boots on Carine R.!!
Moi aussi, Luci! Aren't the Margiela nail heel boots fabulous?!
Kate makes a good point: similar but not the same. Julia is more girly; maybe an age thing. I don't know. Carine's style reflects her strength - you don't mess with a woman like her!! Also, Carine's style is very much like her bedroom and office; fuss-free, simple & luxe. We usually see Carine sans handbag or with just a tiny clutch; everything is minimal, and only present if absolutely necessary. In short, the woman is amazing!
Milla, you actually reminded me of a post I wrote last summer that seems relevant to the conversation: L'envers.
I think the styles of the women are also impacted by their body types. Girly fashions would not look nearly as chic on Carine's angular frame as her minimal cuts do. As for Julia's curvaceous figure, clothing with fewer details and chicer lines would make her look, well, fatter.
; D
Anyway, cannot agree more that Carine's minimal approach to life via her garments, her accessories, her home, her office is AMAZING!
You're so right! More than the beautiful pieces, both women dress for their individual body shapes which, I believe, is why they look so amazing. It doesn't really matter what body shape you have - fat/thin/no boobs/large derrière etc - if you don't maximise what you have, you might as well stay home!
I cannot imagine Carine wearing anything too girly, can you?
Right on, Milla! Words to live by: maximize what you have or stay home! Isn't this basically the philosophy of every stylish Frenchwoman, focus on making the most of your assets?
No, I cannot imagine Carine wearing anything too girly and I don't think it is just that she makes choices appropriate to her age. Even when she was younger, she seemed to opt for the simple lines and minimal details.
I love them both, but feel like I could actually pull off some of Julia's styles because they're more "me." Maybe they're a little more accessible and I love, love, love her romantic style!
That's cool, TBF! I waver, sometimes I feel a bit like Julia's style but more often Carine's dominates in my mind. With a dash of Lou Doillon!
; )
I admire Julia's style but I prefer Carine's skirt lengths on myself.
