Vogue Paris Rumors

Masquerade is the theme for the October issue of Vogue Paris and the seductive image of Lara Stone above is rumored to be for the 90th anniversary cover. Then in November for the cover Carine Rotifeld reportedly chose to feature Daphne Groeneveld as photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. For the special December/January issue of Vogue Paris we hear that the guest editor is none other than the fabulous Tom Ford and among other wonders he promises to give us a peek at his top secret collection... Lots to look forward to in the coming months!

Vogue Paris October 2010 Preview: Lara Stone

To celebrate ninety years of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld picked Lara Stone for the cover of the very special October issue. (Note that this image is from February 2009 as the current cover image is not yet available.) I have read everything from 622 pages to 678 pages, whatever the actual number, the issue is going to be large. Vogue Paris also chose many of their favorite photographers to capture the special issue including Steven Klein, David Sims, Hedi Slimane, Mario Sorrenti, Terry Richardson, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

Highlights of the October issue thus far: the 11-year-old daughter of Inès de la Fressange as shot by Hedi Slimane (above) and archival materials such as this 1962 feature with Romy Schneider with photography by Helmut Newton (below). In France readers will be treated to a “portfolio of oversize photographs from the nine decades, all printed on heavy stock, unbound, and ready to frame” culled from the Vogue Paris archives. The October issue will be available on newsstands beginning September 20, be sure to pick up your copy of this collectible.

A costume ball will be held in Paris on September 30 to celebrate the anniversary issue (which should be noted is not all about pretty pictures — ad pages are up nearly 100 percent over last year at this time and the press run for this issue is 40 percent higher than usual.) Félicitations, Carine !

Vogue-à-Porter

For the February issue of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld, Emmanuelle Alt, and Camilla Nickerson came together to style the editorial "Vogue-à-Porter" photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The spreads pictured here were all styled by Carine and star models Lara Stone, Freja Beha Erichsen, and Dree Hemingway.

In the first image, La dentelle fatale de Dolce & Gabbana1, Freja and Lara form a private parade of roses, the old fashioned beauties contrasting nicely with the black and white lacy knit of their undergarments. The satin chokers are the perfect touch.

In the next image, Les sexy dolls d'Azzedine Alaïa, I love how the models completely accept the lack of control they have in the situation quite like dolls. They seem a bit befuddled, but nearer bemused than bewildered. That leather skirt is killer. Have we seen Giovanna wearing that yet?

Finally, in La farce militaire de Jean Paul Gaultier2, Carine imagines a hot futuristic military look that only she could conjure up. Carine Roitfeld, je vous salue !

Vogue Paris 2008 Calendar

While we all patiently await news of the December/January issue of Vogue Paris, including the guest editor and the calendar, I added the images from the Vogue Paris 2008 calendar to the gallery to help pass the time. The 2008 calendar is far superior to 2009, but I'll try to dig up those images and add them as well for archival purposes. Soon we will have the Vogue Paris 2010 calendar for comparison, I cannot wait to see it...

Vogue Paris Controversy

Thus far I have avoided voicing my opinion on the latest Vogue Paris controversy: are the images of Lara Stone in the October 2009 issue of Vogue Paris racist? My opinion is absolutely not, what a ridiculous notion. I had thought it best not to add to the controversy but this is a forum for discussing all things Roitfeldesque and so I will open the topic for discussion. I think that LegBaby on Fashion Spot said it best:

"I was really amazed by how this racism thing blew up everywhere. I don't find it racist at all really, but I guess everyone here is a fashion fan so we see editorials in a completely different light. When it comes down to it I wonder if anyone would be complaining half as much if it was a 'high' art thing rather than fashion related—it just seems like with fashion nobody's willing to look for a message or a meaning, it obviously just has to be some kind of horrible, superficial, cold hearted stab at a minority. It doesn't matter that VP is essentially quite a niche magazine for a niche crowd who generally would understand what the editors are trying to go for—if it's fashion it's apparently shallow, and some kind of attempt to brainwash the masses into seeing the world in the warped, materialistic way that the fashion crowd are supposed to see it. I mean, really, people should just think about things before they cry wolf. Rant over, sorry."

What do you think of this editorial?
