Carine On The Collections: Singular Beauties

For her third editorial as Global Fashion Director for Harper's Bazaar, Carine Roitfeld envisioned a diverse world of beautiful women and children in "Singular Beauties." The black background lends drama to each scene as photographed by Karl Lagerfeld. Also collaborating on the work was Stephen Gan, the creative director of the magazine. The models  that Carine selected represent a variety of ages, races, and body types and include Angel Haze, Ashleigh Good, Candice Huffine, Carmen Dell'Orefice, Chiharu Okunugi, China Machado, Chrishell Stubbs, Dakota Fanning, Erika Ervin, Gabourey Sidibe, Grimes, Karen Elson, Kenya Kinski, Liberty Ross, Lily Collins, Lily Donaldson, Linn Arvidsson, Lisa Verberght, Liya Kebede, Ondria Hardin, Scarlett Johansson, Soo Joo Park, Tilda Lindstam, Xiao Wen Ju, and Zoë Kravitz."Singular Beauties" will appear in various September issues of Harper's Bazaar around the world.

Carine Roitfeld: Vision Accomplished

There is no end to Carine Roitfeld's drive; in her latest venture with Mercedes-Benz, she acts as both creative director and fashion designer for “Vision Accomplished: Fashion Film Spring/Summer 2014.″ Teaming with stylist Stephen Gan, photographers Max von Gumppenberg and Patrick Bienert, and model Sui He, Carine lends her exquisite eye to the luxury brand to envision quite the seductive setting for their new S-Class. Sui He revs up the action in a Little Black Dress designed by Carine Roitfeld accompanied by pumps adorned with the Mercedes-Benz hood ornament made especially for the shoot by Gianvito Rossi. When asked about the inspiration for her first design, Carine shared: "This dress has a perfect knee-length, it's a perfect sweater, it's black — something you can keep forever, but with a bit of a sensual look, because it very closely follows her whole body. It's very sculptural in a simple way — exactly like the car. I think this car is very sober, chic, and very expensive looking, so I was aiming to design something exactly the same for Sui He." We can only hope this amazing creation heralds the beginning of CR's fashion line, and, if so, permit me to say — put the pedal to the metal, girl!

Carine Roitfeld: The Animal Nursery

For her latest installment of "Carine On The Collections" for Harper's Bazaar, Carine Roitfeld created a wildly engaging editorial, "The Animal Nursery," with models Senait Gidey, Tilda Lindstam, Soo Joo Park, Irina Shayk, and Kate Upton posing as caretakers for tiger cubs, baby monkeys, and leopard cubs on safari. Of course the world's cutest veterinary nurses are dressed in garments from the Pre-Fall collections, accessorized smartly with shining stethoscopes, pert caps, and elbow-length surgical gloves. Notice the flasks and first aid kits, these women are prepared for any emergency in their enchanting animal nursery. Carine shared her excitement about the project with The Cut, "The shoot was a dream come true because I had never held a baby monkey and baby tigers before… Kate was so incredible, very cool. She was the most relaxed out of all the girls with the animals. You can tell she feels very connected to nature. I was very surprised how wholesome she is." Carine worked with creative director Stephen Gan and photographer Sebastian Faena to produce "The Animal Nursery."

Carine Roitfeld: Welcome To Spring

After much anticipation, the first images created by Carine Roitfeld in her new role as Global Fashion Director for Harper's Bazaar have been released. For the March 2013 issue, Carine worked with photographer Kacper Kasprzyk and creative director Stephen Gan to devise a striking editorial titled "Carine on the Collections: Welcome to Spring." Starring models Saskia De Brauw, Ashleigh Good, Sui He, Yumi Lambert, Tilda Lindstam, Sam Rollinson, Stephanie Seymour, Joan Smalls, Lara Stone, and Stef Van Der Laan, Carine's spring palette is unsurprisingly stark, consisting largely of black and white pieces with a splash of neutral for contrast. Among the collections featured in "Welcome to Spring" are Azzedine Alaïa, Balenciaga, Céline, Chanel, Comme des Garçons, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Tom Ford, Givenchy, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Max Mara, and Saint Laurent Paris.

Carine Roitfeld For Dior For Printemps Holiday 2012

Dior and Printemps have collaborated to create a sparkling new advertising campaign for the holiday season as styled by Carine Roitfeld, art directed by Stephen Gan, and photographed by Mario Testino. The campaign stars Carolyn Murphy and Sui He wearing Dior couture with the Printemps flagship store and the Eiffel Tower serving as background. The whimsical window display at Printemps will feature twelve mechanical puppets dressed by the Dior couturiers in the most iconic looks of the house although I am not sure if Carine was involved in this facet of the project.

Paolo de Cesare, Printemps chairman and chief executive officer, is pleased with the results: “It has been one of the most creative collaborations we have done with brands, and I think it’s really setting the standard of what’s possible between brands and a department store. We wanted to do something that could capture this excitement, this energy and also a bit of this unexpected collaboration and moment that we’re bringing together.” Watch for print and outdoor advertising images to appear beginning 15 November.
