Review: Vogue Paris December 2010/January 2011 Issue

Merci mille fois to Milla from the chic blog Not Just Another Milla for allowing me to share with you her review of the December/January issue of Vogue Paris starring Tom Ford. The issue is a beauty from start to finish and receives high praise from Milla, she is a consistently tough critic but considers Mr. Ford's effort to be the best Vogue Paris of the year. It sounds as if he and Carine Roitfeld had loads of mischievous fun creating this one! Happy Holidays!

Mr Ford has not only restored my faith in Vogue Paris but has shown everybody how it should be done. The December/January issue is everything Mr Ford is — sophisticated, intelligent, bold, and unapologetic. He doesn’t skim the issue so if you’re prudish, conservative, or repressed, look away because this issue isn’t for you. Probably the thing I like most about this issue is that he has kept it real. When turning each page, I see part of his persona and if you’re the guest editor-in-chief, we should ‘feel’ your presence. Absolutely excellent.

As we progress, Mr Ford shows us even more of his talent as he photographs his muses Betty Caroux, Lisa Eisner, Lauren Hutton, Marisa Berenson, Rachel Feinstein, Daphne Guinness, Ali McGraw, and Victoria Fernandez for “Mes Swans,” who all wear his Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Like the man himself, the collection is clean, crisp, and chic!

And here we are at “Forever Love," my favourite editorial from the issue. Controversial, real, and I just love all of your reactions! I’ve had such a giggle reading the “yuck” and “eww” comments. What surprised me though is hearing how strongly people feel about seeing older people getting together in a sexual way in comparison with last month’s Vogue Paris, which showed nude children. That’s a whole different post but yes, I was surprised. I wish my nan had jewellery from Graff, Jacob & Co, and Harry Winston but I agree, I really do not want to imagine her like this…

The much-talked about "Pussy West" looks great in print and I’m happy to report that nude shot of Eniko is not featured. I guessed they realised that a randomly naked (stunning) woman is better suited to Terry Richardson’s bedside drawer than this publication. Female empowerment + ballgowns + ranch = amazing! I still cannot believe this is Richardson’s work.

As the issue comes to a close, Mr Ford gives us another intimate peek into his world with his stunning portrait of his partner, Richard Buckley. The magazine is peppered with intimate photographs of the couple’s home, parents, and dogs. In the few articles about their lives, we meet “The Fords” and yes, his parents are as attractive as their son. This is a highly personal issue, which I imagine he considered for a while before agreeing to participate.

Mr Ford may be provocative but he is undoubtedly a perfectionist. Vogue Paris should be proud to have the honour of such a creative, inspirational, and bold man lend his energy to the publication. He didn’t even need to feature Kate Moss to convince me. This is hands down the best issue of 2010.

Joyeux Noël Monsieur Ford et merci beaucoup!

Vogue Paris December 2010/January 2011: Tom Ford

Woo hoo! Love, love, love the cover of the December/January issue of Vogue Paris featuring guest editor Tom Ford and Daphne Groenveld! Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott snapped the festive photo. About Monsieur Ford's reign as guest editor for VP, editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld had this to say: "Tom has an eye like a scanner. He took his role very seriously. He is truly multitalented.” The 2011 Vogue Paris calendar girl is Daria Werbowy photographed by Mikael Jansson. The holiday issue will be available beginning on November 30. Except for Charlotte Gainsbourg, I have never looked forward to a guest editor with more anticipation — can't wait!!!!!

Vogue Paris December 2010 Preview: Tom Ford

The rumor is true — Carine Roitfeld has selected Tom Ford as the guest editor for the December issue of Vogue Paris! I am still waiting on the image of the cover so in the meantime enjoy these photographs of Tom Ford's brilliant new collection for women. Decadent, luxurious, covetable... I cannot wait to see what fun he and Carine have with the December issue! The images seen here were styled by Camilla Nickerson and photographed by Steven Meisel.

Roitfeld Walks In Secret Tom Ford Show

As you have probably heard by now, Tom Ford revealed his highly anticipated collection for women at a secret show in the intimacy of his Madison Avenue store yesterday. Perhaps best of all, Ford chose to unveil his collection by using famous celebrities, singers, and actresses rather than limiting himself to models. Certainly worst of all is the fact that he banned cameras at the show (other than Terry Richardson) so we have nary a glimpse of the goodness, though I did hear that Carine Roitfeld was wearing a black lace lingerie dress from Ford's Yves Saint Laurent era. Ford himself narrated the collection, introducing each model and describing every garment in detail as it graced the runway.

Modeling the sexy collection were Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Julianne Moore (the female lead in Ford's first film A Single Man) and her daughter, Liv Helen Freundlich, Lou Doillon, Emmanuelle Seigner, Natalia Vodianova, Chanel Iman, Stella Tennant, Rita Wilson, Daphne Guinness, Victoria Fernandez, Liya Kebede, Carolyn Murphy, Du Juan, Liu Wen, Karlie Kloss, Lakshmi Menon, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Freja Beha Erichsen (the face for Tom Ford Eyewear), Anja Rubik, Daria Werbowy, Karen Elson, Amber Valletta, Monika Jagaciak, Lauren Hutton, Joan Smalls, Marisa Berenson, Rachel Feinstein, Rinko Kikuchi, Lisa Eisner, Farida Khelfa, Edita Vilkeviciute, and Beyoncé Knowles.

Cathy Horyn of The New York Times gives us an idea of the clothes: “Sharp pantsuits in black silk or a leopard pattern, gorgeous black evening clothes with sheer blouses, corsets and maybe a shrug in shredded tulle, impeccable details like hammered gold jewellery, stilettos with ankle ties and seamed black stockings." The collection will be available at Tom Ford stores internationally in February.

Vogue Paris Translation: Editorial, February 2010

Below is my translation from French to English of Carine Roitfeld's editorial for the February issue of Vogue Paris:

What is the first priority of Vogue? To guide readers in the field of fashion and to offer a clear and personal vision of the salt of the season. Mission accomplished with these special total looks staging the editors' favorites from the latest spring-summer shows. Casual, evening, sober, bright, sexy, wise, monochrome or a screaming colorama... all the seduction options are generic. He electrified fashion from the years 1990 to 2000, the "Wonderboy" of style, before disappearing at the height of his glory. Tom Ford is back, but on the big screen. His first film as director, A Single Man, is one of the most anticipated events of the year. Aesthetically perfect — we do not expect less — this adaptation of Christopher Isherwood's novel is a poignant melodrama of grief and loneliness. "This film is the most personal thing I've done in my life," Tom Ford said in an interview he granted us: the Gucci years put his life on a pedestal, according to his grandmother and her jargon. Don't forget a stop at Dakis Joannou, one of the greatest collectors of contemporary art, a friend of Jeff Koons, considered by François Pinault to be an unerring eye, and Kate Moss with her hand in the bag...
