Carine Roitfeld For VMAN #27

I do not know if it was Carine Roitfeld's choice to use Tom Brady for the cover of VMAN #27, the Fall 2012 issue, but I heartily applaud the decision. This fine specimen of manhood is also known as Mr. Gisele Bündchen for those of you that do not follow the New England Patriots, the football team that Brady quarterbacks. Carine referred to Monsieur Brady as "lovely" in her interview with Harper's Bazaar this week, she was pleased to be seated with him and Gisele at the most recent Met Ball. Mario Testino shot the fierce editorial in which Brady poses with a menacing Doberman Pinscher, masterful in tuxedos by Givenchy, Ermenegildo Zegna, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren accented by a studded dog collar by Trixie + Peanut. As an added bonus, Brady was interviewed for the issue by Tom Ford. The Fall edition of VMAN can be found on select newsstands beginning 23 August.

Carine Roitfeld: VMAN Calendar

In February, Carine Roitfeld served as guest editor for VMAN Magazine and I am sorry it has taken so long for me to get around to discussing it. In addition to styling the editorials for the magazine, Carine created a 2012 calendar of Victoria's Secret models that was every bit as sexy as her infamous Vogue Paris calendars. I want to applaud Carine for effectively taking up the slack of her successor at Vogue Paris, Emmanuelle Alt, who denied readers the pleasure of the annual calendar this year as well as the beloved concept of a guest editor with her December issue.

In case you missed it, I have added Carine's VMAN calendar to the archive, featuring models Doutzen Kroes, Joan Smalls, Lily Donaldson, Miranda Kerr, Adriana Lima, Izabel Goulart, Candice Swanepoel, Ana Beatriz Barros, Alessandria Ambrosio, Anne Vyalitsyna, Chanel Iman, and Karolina Kurkova as photographed by Willy Vanderperre.

I would also like to take this opportunity to look back at a few of the calendars produced by Carine during her reign at Vogue Paris, including my personal favorite, the imaginative 2008 VP calendar which has hung in a spot of honor on my wall since December of 2007 when it arrived with the Charlotte Gainsbourg issue.

Which of Carine's Vogue Paris calendars is your favorite? What do you think of her calendar for VMAN?

Carine Roitfeld For VMAN

The spring fashion issue of VMAN features Carine Roitfeld as guest editor and I like what I hear so far. Carine has chosen to feature real people in her issue rather than models, although she did pick a few celebrities. I love her approach, she imagined the editorials she styled as "dinner at her place," it sounds delicious. Carine explains the philosophy at work, “[It's] very new for a men's magazine. I like men trendy, but not fashion victims. It’s more effortless. When you work with real people, you can’t impose something.” Tahar Rahim covers the issue as shot by Nick Knight (his first time working with Carine!) and the stellar cast of photographers includes also Richard Avedon's grandson, Michael, Peter Lindbergh, Bruce Weber, Karl Lagerfeld, and Jean-Baptiste Mondino. VMAN 25 is packaged with a calendar (not featuring real people but Victoria's Secret models as photographed by Willy Vandeperre; above is Miss July, Adriana Lima) and appears on newsstands on February 14, the perfect Valentine's Day gift to all of us.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld Shoots For VMAN

Remember back in August when I mentioned that Julia Restoin-Roitfeld photographed her boyfriend Robert Konjic for VMAN? The article has finally been published, see above. Konjic reports in the piece that he maintains his sexy skin using the array of products shown — men, listen up! Julia also put together a collection of songs to get things rolling in the studio the day of the shoot, check out her "Summer Mix Tape" to hear her inspiration.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld's Summer Mix Tape

Hooray! It is a magical day! Julia Restoin-Roitfeld compiled her "Summer Mix Tape" for all of us, perhaps this will help to soothe those end of summer blues we are about to experience. And... well... finally it is confirmed that Julia and I share similar taste! I know, I know, I try not to involve myself but it's music.... Specifically, just three days ago I mentioned that Serge Gainsbourg's "Sea, Sex, and Sun" was one of my favorites, too cool.

Julia photographed Robert Konjic (her beau, also a model) for the latest issue of VMAN and while hanging out at the studio she put together a playlist of her favorite summer songs for a brief article titled "The Sounds of Summer":

Vanessa Paradis “Joe Le Taxi”

Fleetwood Mac “Everywhere”

Serge Gainsbourg “Sea, Sex, And Sun”

The Source “You’ve Got The Love”
Roxette “It Must Have Been Love”

Cut Copy “Hearts on Fire”

Hot Chip “Transmission”

Music Go Music “Warm in the Shadows”

Guns ’n’ Roses “Sweet Child of Mine”

Blur “Boys and Girls”

Iggy Pop “The Passenger”
Talk Talk “It’s My Life (extended version)”
The Verve “Bitter Sweet Symphony”

Toto Coelo “Milk From Coconut”

Kate Bush “Running Up That Hill”

Jimmy Somerville “Smalltown Boy"

La Roux “In For the Kill”

I created a Grooveshark playlist titled "Julia Restoin-Roitfeld Summer Mix Tape" so you can relax and enjoy as DJ Jewels spins her summer picks with the help of MC Konjic... and let us know your favorite summer songs in the comments.
