Vogue Paris June/July 2009: Anja Rubik

Carine Roitfeld chose Anja Rubik for the June/July cover of Vogue Paris with photography by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Imagine Daisy Duke dressed head to upper thigh in Christian Dior to celebrate Bastille Day and you'll have some idea of the Vogue Paris team's inspiration for this cover. Les cerises, ceci est bonne...

Follow Vogue Paris on Twitter

I haven't actually signed up for Twitter myself yet, but this may be my deal breaker. View Vogue Paris for the latest on the Cannes festivities and be sure to add the magazine to your Twitter possé while you are there. They have loads of essential insider information, such as the VIP Room DJ line up: Bob Sinclar le 14 mai, Martin Solveig le 15, Joachim Garraud le 17, et Carl Cox le 19. Last night 50 Cent and Lenny Kravitz performed for the packed crowd of die-hard night clubbers who had just caravaned from Carine Roitfeld's exclusive amfAR after party on the Eden Roc terrace. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana hosted the after after party.

Carine Roitfeld Parties at Hôtel du Cap

How cute is this, Carine Roitfeld's actual place setting beside Stefano Gabbana's at the amfAR dinner held at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden Roc in Cap D’Antibes. This just may be the most beautiful hotel in the world...

Also sharing their table were Domenico Dolce and the evening's top prize, Robert Pattinson. Pattinson ended up auctioning off a couple of his kisses for this annual AIDS benefit that raises money for research and preventative programs. Bill Clinton was the guest "star" and Sharon Stone acted as both mistress of ceremonies and auctioneer for the event. Then roughly a thousand of the guests were invited to the after party Carine hosted on the Eden Roc terrace.

Carine Roitfeld in Givenchy at Cannes

I have been waiting patiently for days for photos of Carine from Cannes. Why are so few available? Why is it more likely to find a photo of *$%&^#@ Shannon Doherty at Cannes than Carine Roitfeld, one of the co-chairs of the event?

Finally! Here is a photo of her arriving at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala benefit with designer Kenneth Cole. Though some web sites say she is "twying too hard" here, I think she looks angelic and glamourous in her white Givenchy gown much like a Grecian goddess. She's wearing the Alaïa shoes I love, too, swoon.

However, we are still waiting for Julia to make an appearance on the red carpet....

The Guardian Interviews Carine Roitfeld

I realize I went on and on about the interview in The Guardian with Carine yesterday, but I hadn't seen this photo yet. The Margiela python boots, s-ss-sssigh. Equally great is the title as caption, "Carine Roitfeld: Fashion's sharpest operator." Cue Sade stage left. Yes, this is distinctly the lair of one sharp serpentine. Note the June photo from Le Calendrier 2008 Vogue Paris in the background. As if you had trouble spotting it. And let's not overlook the fact that she is coiled ever so parfait on the arm of the sofa. In such small details, she is so unique. Of course we've all sat on arms of sofas. But was it during magazine interviews in our 50s?
