Carine Roitfeld: Cinema Against Aids Gala 2016

The 23rd amfAR Cinema Against Aids Gala raised over $25 million dollars with the highlight being the auction of 31 looks curated by Carine Roitfeld in the spirit of the disco era. The star studded event at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes featured Uma Thurman as mistress of events in Schiaparelli; Leonardo DiCaprio as auctioneer, offering bidders a chance to spend a week at his place; and Katy Perry, The Village People, Sister Sledge, and The Bluebell Girls performed live for guests. Among those were amfAR Chairman Kenneth Cole, amfAR Ambassador Milla Jovovich, Harvey Weinstein, Dame Helen Mirren, and Faye Dunaway. Carine chose a très sexy black dress by Alexandre Vauthier for herself for the evening.

Julia Restoin Roitfeld: Art For Love

Julia Restoin Roitfeld by Pamela Hanson

Would you like to own this portrait of Julia Restoin Roitfeld by Pamela Hanson? Don’t miss your chance to add this work to your personal art collection, if the price is right… Julia posed as part of a project titled “Art For Love,” an exhibition of images by 32 photographers curated by Fabien Baron and organized by Moncler in celebration of their “Maya” puffer jacket.

When asked about the inspiration behind the puffer jacket as subject, Remo Ruffini, the president of Moncler, replied: “I chose the Maya jacket as the ‘subject’ of this project because it represents [the brand’s] heritage, and is at the same time so iconic that these master lensmen could interpret it as they wished. The exhibition features extraordinary images by masters of the camera who use their very own language to depict love as the bedrock of the life of human beings… It’s something really incredible because we gave [the photographers] the freedom; we didn’t give them any brief. We said you have to do exactly you, and that was really the key... You really see the jacket but in different ways. In some pictures it looks like a sports jacket, in some pictures it looks like a piece of art.”

Francesco Carrozzini and Franca Sozzani

The “Art For Love” images were exhibited privately at an exclusive opening event at the New York Public Library and the guest list was sublime: of course Julia Restoin Roitfeld was among the guests as well as Lucky Blue and Pyper America Smith, the current faces of Moncler, Franca Sozzani, Francesco Carrozzini, Giovanna Battaglia, Terry Richardson, Paolo Roversi, Pamela Hanson, Margherita and Teresa Missoni, and Eva Cavalli.

The proceeds from “Art For Love” will help to fund research by Carine Roitfeld’s favorite charity, amfAR, via their project Countdown to a Cure for AIDS. Julia herself wrote on Instagram: “So proud to be part of the @moncler x @amfar exhibition shot by @pamela_hanson and curated by @fabienbaron #artforlove #amfar New York Public Library.” The photographs are on auction via Paddles through 29 September, bid now for your chance to own this exquisite portrait of Julia Restoin Roitfeld.

Carine Roitfeld: Cinema Against AIDS Gala

Carine Roitfeld: Cinema Against AIDS Gala
By Jessica Eritou

For the fourth year running, Carine Roitfeld curated yet another successful star-studded runway show at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes in partnership to benefit the 22nd amfAR Cinema Against Aids Gala which raised nearly $30 million dollars.

The event included top models Gigi Hadid and Karolina Kurkova who were part of a show featuring nearly fifty looks. Among the designers featured were Tom Ford and Alexander Wang with shoes by Gianvito Rossi and jewels by Harry Winston. Since the dresses auctioned off were mostly sample sizes, the prizes were not aimed to be physically worn by each of the top bidders, measurements and sizes vary.

“What is amazing about the amfAR event in Cannes is that it is not only an incredible red carpet but people are very relaxed. It’s the South of France, it’s the Riviera, and there is a kind of freedom,” Carine Roitfeld told WWD in early May before the event. “The people who attend really enjoy themselves, and that’s why all the models want to be there.”

The Sixties theme drew inspiration from Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Jean Shrimpton, and Veruschka. “I didn’t want to have a show with only princess dresses,” Carine said to WWD. “I think a collection needs a bit of both — day and night.” Charli XCX also performed as part of the show. Roitfeld hoped to have nearly raised $5 million to match the previous year's amount for the fashion runway portion of the fundraiser.

The Roitfelds At Cinema Against AIDS Gala

For the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala at Cannes, this year Carine Roitfeld chose a silver dress by Saint Laurent while Julia appeared in a black gown by Givenchy. I love that Carine continues her Cannes tradition by wearing her beloved Alaïa lace ups, quelle femme.

The Roitfelds At Novak Djokovic Foundation Dinner

The second annual dinner to benefit the Novak Djokovic Foundation attracted fans of both tennis and fashion and especially radiant among the guests was Julia Restoin Roitfeld in a black lace gown by Peter Dundas for Pucci. Her YSL clutch is the perfect finishing touch to her sexy and elegant look. Speaking of sexy, the new haircut that Vladimir is sporting is très chic, I love this look for him.

Hosted by Novak Djokovic and Jelena Ristic at Capitale in Manhattan, the charitable evening amounted to $2.5 million raised by the foundation dedicated to the deprived children of Serbia, the country torn by war in which the world-ranked tennis player grew up. Other supporters seen that evening amidst the tennis-inspired decor were Princess Eugenie of York, John McEnroe, Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova, Molly Sims, Jimmy Connors, Kevin Spacey, Lapo Elkan, Candice Swanepoel, Ricky Gervais, Goldie Hawn, Dree Hemingway, Dee and Tommy Hilfiger, Olivia Palermo, Joan Smalls, and Donna Karan.
