Vogue Paris March 2010: Rose Cordero

Rose Cordero looks stunning in Louis Vuitton as shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for the cover of the March issue of Vogue Paris; the colors and textures of the photograph pay tribute to the military trend while transcending it. The entire image glows, perfectly setting off Rose's radiant beauty. I cannot wait to see it in real life, I hope the foil matches the green in her eyeshadow to accent her singular eyes. This is my favorite cover since the brunette Lara Stone issue last September, simply elegant. Perhaps the March issue will herald the beginning of my subscription by post that I received as a lovely Christmas gift back in December... fingers crossed...

Vogue Paris February 2010: Daria Werbowy

Sheesh, so much for joining the ranks of the privileged Vogue Paris subscriber... I have yet to receive my initial issue though I see in the online forums that others have had their copies for a couple of days now. Harrumph. Also it seems that the rumors that we would see new blood on this cover were false—though it is a beauty, the model is standby Daria Werbowy in Prada Spring/Summer 2010 shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. I am excited to read that there is an interview with Tom Ford and an article with Kate Moss regarding her collaboration with Longchamp. [By the way, is she working for Vogue Paris as an editor now?] The image below is from the editorial "Vogue-à-Porter" styled by Carine Roitfeld, Emmanuelle Alt, and Camilla Nickerson.

Vogue Paris December 2009/January 2010: Laetitia Casta

Going into a meeting so I will post more soon but wanted to let you know the rumor is true: Carine Roitfeld has selected Laetitia Casta as the guest editor for the December 2009/January 2010 issue of Vogue Paris.

Vogue Paris November 2009: Isabeli Fontana

The November issue of Vogue Paris is inspired by the idea of extreme yet original luxury and combines haute couture and street graffiti with great success. The cover features Isabeli Fontana as shot by David Sims at Milk Studios. The photos below are from my favorite editorial in the issue, "Keith Me," a take on Keith Haring's practice of painting tribal graffiti on the body of his subject. Brilliant styling par usual on the part of Carine Roitfeld, including a Louis Vuitton blanket as a tribal mini dress. Appearing in "Une Fille Un Style" this month is Iris Apfel; it is hard to believe that this stylish woman is 88 years old, what an inspiration she is! Other intriguing editorials this month: "Peintures de Guerre" and "Graffi-Couture" both styled by Emmanuelle Alt.

Vogue Paris October 2009: Kate Moss

The October issue of Vogue Paris features Roitfeld favorite Kate Moss as shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The focus is "Spécial Top Models". Hmmm, not a lot of surprises there...

I think I like Kate's look, a bit icy, painterly—if you focus your eyes on just the highlights, the photograph is phenomenal. The tableau is perfectly crafted, too; the gray background is just the right foil to the lightness of Kate and the fur. The texture is remarkable, it really looks in spots as if someone pulled a paintbrush through it, the wisps of fur, her hair, up the side of her neck.

Some critics remarked on the absence of the "G" from the cover but I think that bit of the letter arcing out of her head would be horrible. Another possibility is to move Kate upwards so that the lack of "G" is anticipated, but perhaps Carine liked how the curves of her hair enhanced the flow of the photo and didn't want to disrupt the line. Featured in the October "Une Fille Un Style" section is Mme Gaspard, the muse of Pierre Cardin in the 1960s.

Lucky subscribers receive a special supplement this month, Vogue Paris : Les secrets de ses plus belles couvertures, a collection of covers of past issues of the magazine with accompanying text that explains the background of each one. Twiggy was selected as the cover model for the supplement. Also included are outtakes from the shoot for the November cover with Mario Sorrenti and an interview with David Bailey.
