Carine Roitfeld: Fashion Gourou

Madame Figaro featured a lovely interview in their issue dated 4 October, "Carine Roitfeld, Fashion Gourou," as photographed by Benoit Peverelli. I am sorry I do not have time to translate the interview, but Thefrenchy has added the Google translation to Fashion Spot if you are desperate to know the secrets Madame Figaro is coaxing from Carine... I always enjoy Google's way with words, here's one of the better bits in this passage: "Every morning, looking me in the mirror, I wonder if I am a woman Yves Saint Laurent." These words made such an impact on me when stated thusly — when Carine Roitfeld looks in the mirror each morning, of course she does not say, "Phew, I should really work out more!"... "Oh, I have nothing to wear!"... "Mon dieu, mes cheveux !"... non! When Carine Roitfeld looks in the mirror each morning, she thinks about her favorite fashion fantasy, painting on her dark eyes, enveloping herself in the scent of YSL's Opium Body Lotion, imagining herself as an Yves Saint Laurent woman. I am an artist with an addiction to fashion magazines. I've been poring over them for years. And of all the fashionable ladies who blaze a path of sartorial self-expression today, Carine Roitfeld is my personal hero. The self that she has crafted — a fiercely intelligent and witty woman, in passionate pursuit of beauty and extreme boundaries — is perfectly reflected in the way she styles her outward appearance, from her clothes, her hair, her makeup, and the upkeep of her body. What femme d'un certain âge wouldn't be inspired? So it is with immense pleasure that I join the team that shares my little fantasy of Wanting to be a Roitfeld.
