Vogue Paris October 2010 Preview: Lara Stone

To celebrate ninety years of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld picked Lara Stone for the cover of the very special October issue. (Note that this image is from February 2009 as the current cover image is not yet available.) I have read everything from 622 pages to 678 pages, whatever the actual number, the issue is going to be large. Vogue Paris also chose many of their favorite photographers to capture the special issue including Steven Klein, David Sims, Hedi Slimane, Mario Sorrenti, Terry Richardson, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

Highlights of the October issue thus far: the 11-year-old daughter of Inès de la Fressange as shot by Hedi Slimane (above) and archival materials such as this 1962 feature with Romy Schneider with photography by Helmut Newton (below). In France readers will be treated to a “portfolio of oversize photographs from the nine decades, all printed on heavy stock, unbound, and ready to frame” culled from the Vogue Paris archives. The October issue will be available on newsstands beginning September 20, be sure to pick up your copy of this collectible.

A costume ball will be held in Paris on September 30 to celebrate the anniversary issue (which should be noted is not all about pretty pictures — ad pages are up nearly 100 percent over last year at this time and the press run for this issue is 40 percent higher than usual.) Félicitations, Carine !

Vogue Paris Translation: Editorial, August 2010

Below is my translation from French to English of Carine Roitfeld's editorial for the August issue of Vogue Paris. The images that she chose to illustrate her text are portraits of the nine models used for the editorial of 64 total looks. I would have translated the passage for you sooner but unbelievably I have yet to receive my copy from my subscription by mail! I finally bought the issue at the newsstand because I could not wait (or risk missing it altogether in the likely event that my subscription issue fails to arrive). So apologies for the delay and curses to Amazon.com's magazine subscription service. Happy summer...

Summer is in full swing and its end is a remote horizon that one does not wish to consider. It is the time for relaxation, the freewheeling life, the slumber of responsibilities. To accompany this state of the spirit of idleness, we offer you an exclusive boat trip on the new yacht of Giorgio Armani: a deep green high-tech vessel, ultra-refined minimalism, which makes obsolete all the marine specimens of other billionaires. An idyllic framework for nomadic vacations in the Mediterranean.

Don't think of summer's end, fine, but why deny oneself the most exciting part? To commence with the contours of fashion. Following the colossal success met by the August issue last year, we again selected 64 total looks of designers interpreted by David Sims and edited for all the circumstances of the hectic life of a professional woman with uncompromising style. To avoid the mind taking a complete vacation, we have covered the cultural highlights of autumn for you: Woody Allen, Bret Easton Ellis, Tilda Swinton, the revealing of Lea, etc. Without forgetting a small indispensable guide to the favorite addresses of stars from all over the world. At the height of summer, we have a bird's eye view of its end thanks to Vogue. You will not be bored.

Carine Roitfeld: Fashion Statements

Mon Dieu, how gorgeous is Carine Roitfeld in this photo! Stunning, breathtaking, the epitome in chic, they do not make superlatives superlative enough to describe her. Her eyes, her hair, her figure, her clothes so perfect that they seem to fade into the background but none of this is by chance, it is by design — her design. Carine Roitfeld's masterpiece as a stylist is herself. Here she divulges that she has "tampered with" this elegant black satin dress by John Galliano so that it looks "deconstructed." She has shaped the garment to flatter her shape best, as she does with her hair, her makeup, her accessories — La Roitfeld is a testament to her talent.

Oh yes, the details... This editorial titled "Fashion Statements" appeared in Allure in November 1995 and was photographed by Mario Testino. Julien d'Y's styled Carine's hair for the shoot. With the Galliano dress she is wearing a vintage Rolex watch that the article says is a gift from "her husband" and a python clutch, so simple, so perfect, so Carine.

Vogue Paris August 2010 Editorials

The editorials I have seen so far indicate that Carine Roitfeld has styled the hell out of the August issue of Vogue Paris, I cannot wait to possess it... Here in an outtake from "L'hiver avant l'hiver" is Crystal Renn who I believe strongly resembles none other than Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. Curves are in so flaunt it if you've got it, mesdames et monsieurs. Sexy time! David Sims shot the sensual spread styled by Roitfeld and Emmanuelle Alt.

Also looking good: Isabeli Fontana in "L'hiver avant l'hiver" and Malgosia Bela in "Médailles du style" styled by Veronique Didry and photographed by Josh Olins. (Be sure to visit Anna Dello Russo's site for more gorgeous medals of style.) Available on newsstands now provided you live in the right neighborhood...
