Carine Roitfeld: Die Frauen Von Paris

Oh do I love this editorial featuring Carine Roitfeld in the April 2002 issue of Vogue Germany. Karl Lagerfeld worked his magic behind the lens and L'Wren Scott styled the piece titled "Die Frauen von Paris" (or in English, "The women of Paris"). La Roitfeld appears barefoot wearing a cape from her own collection, très osé. In the article, Carine shares with us a few of her favorite spots in Paris so I have attempted to translate the text from German to English, please let me know if you can improve on my interpretation... I must say that she has excellent taste in gifts!

Carine Roitfeld, Vogue Paris editor-in-chief
My favorite shops are: the food section in the oldest department store in Paris, La Grand Épicerie - Le Bon Marché; the florist Moulié because of the orchids; and Yves Saint Laurent for my loved ones. For dinner I prefer La Maison du Caviar. For antiques and flea markets I look only in the province. To sleep, I recommend the Hotel Raphaël. The prettiest café is on the upper floor of the Flore. My favorite building: the elegant Seine-Bridge Alexandre III. An interesting museum: Palais de Tokyo built for the 1937 World Exposition and famous for its photo collection. The best gift? A Frenchman!

Carine Roitfeld: La Science Du Reve

Remember when Carine Roitfeld chose Charlotte Gainsbourg as the guest editor for the December 2007/January 2008 issue of Vogue Paris? It is a gorgeous issue and I would like to revisit an editorial that features Gainsbourg titled "La science du rêve" which I find especially beautiful. Styled by Carine and photographed by Craig McDean, Gainsbourg has a feminine, artful look that is quite the opposite of her typical casual attire; it is most becoming. As Carine writes, we know Charlotte in jeans and cowboy boots but like all great actresses she loves changing roles, taking on that of the more sophisticated femme fatale here.

Vogue Paris Translation: Editorial, June/July 2010

For her editorial for the June/July issue of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld selected a seductive image to accompany her text featuring Lara Stone and Freja Beha as shot by Terry Richardson and the colors make the photo. The detail of the sunglasses is so fine, all of the accessories add to the mood (the YSL chokers!) but inverting the color and shape of the glasses on the two models is genius. Tough and sexy, Kellina likes. Here is the translation from French to English of La Roitfeld's June/July Vogue Paris editorial:

If summer is the little dessert of the seasons, we are forced to admit that it is also the moment of the year where fashion is not completely the priority: one sculpts the body, prepares the skin and the hair for the sun, and the bathing suit becomes the focus for dressing. Bathing suits and beauty advice you will discover in this issue, but not only... The vocation of Vogue, this is to excite desire in general and for clothes in particular. Spotlight on the creations of six young stylists highlighted by the venerable ANDAM and we must talk about this, the dresses for the night light as air photographed in the creeks of Cassis or even the best of the pre-collections endorsed by Lara Stone and Freja, two muses of Vogue Paris... All the keys to summer seduction are in the program. Without forgetting, in supplement to the issue, a documentary of 52 minutes devoted to the five most prominent top models, followed exclusively by Loïc Prigent during the last Parisian collections, from backstage at fashion shows to the intimacy of their hotel rooms. A most inspiring entertainment.

Carine Roitfeld: As You Like It

Carine Roitfeld styled this editorial titled "As You Like It" for the February 2000 issue of Vogue US and I don't like it, I love it. Kate Moss models, Mario Testino shoots, and the clothes — ooooo la la ! In this editorial, La Roitfeld takes various pieces of couture and mixes it up to achieve two looks for each, one runway and one reality, both are sheer delights. Among other visual lessons, she teaches us how to wear scorching peony from head to toe, how to pair extravagant pieces like the Hussein Chalayan skirt with understated basics for more wear, and how to dress for space age equestrienne events.

Battaglia: People And Jewelry

Watch Giovanna Battaglia at work! She and other editors styled a feature titled "People and Their Own Jewelry" for the May issue of Vogue Gioiello; sneak a peek behind the scenes at the shoot in the video on the Vogue Italia web site. You can see Giovanna styling Eugenie Niarchos and Gaia Repossi, the team that designs the line of Czarina rings worn by Carine Roitfeld, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, and many others with influential style. Even Garance Doré admits to coveting one....
