Vogue Honors Editors

Last night in Paris, Condé Nast chairman Jonathan Newhouse hosted the annual dinner in honor of the editors of Vogue worldwide and of course Carine Roitfeld was one of the VIPs brightening the room. The dinner took place at Prunier, renowned for its caviar and seafood, and the most influential people in the industry came together to celebrate. Other editors on the guest list: Kirstie Clements from Vogue Australia, Angelica Cheung and Nicoletta Santoro from Vogue China, Christiane Arp from Vogue Germany, Priya Tanna and Anaita Adajania from Vogue India, Franca Sozzani from Vogue Italy, Eva Hughes from Vogue Mexico, Anna Dello Russo and Mitsuko Watanbe from Vogue Nippon, Emmanuelle Alt and Olivier Lalanne from Vogue Paris, Karina Dobrotvorskaya from Vogue Russia, Seda Domanic from Vogue Turkey, and Alexandra Shulman and Lucinda Chambers representing Vogue UK. Also part of the party were Christophe Decarnin from Balmain, Alber Elbaz from Lanvin, and Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri from Valentino. The gold lamé gown that Carine is wearing for the occasion is vintage Yves Saint Laurent.

Vogue-à-Porter

For the February issue of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld, Emmanuelle Alt, and Camilla Nickerson came together to style the editorial "Vogue-à-Porter" photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The spreads pictured here were all styled by Carine and star models Lara Stone, Freja Beha Erichsen, and Dree Hemingway.

In the first image, La dentelle fatale de Dolce & Gabbana1, Freja and Lara form a private parade of roses, the old fashioned beauties contrasting nicely with the black and white lacy knit of their undergarments. The satin chokers are the perfect touch.

In the next image, Les sexy dolls d'Azzedine Alaïa, I love how the models completely accept the lack of control they have in the situation quite like dolls. They seem a bit befuddled, but nearer bemused than bewildered. That leather skirt is killer. Have we seen Giovanna wearing that yet?

Finally, in La farce militaire de Jean Paul Gaultier2, Carine imagines a hot futuristic military look that only she could conjure up. Carine Roitfeld, je vous salue !

Nouveau Western

My beau just crafted his first post verbally (and unbeknownst to him!). Looking over my shoulder at these photos of Carine Roitfeld and company he said, "Who does she think she is, Clint Eastwood?!" I covet the pinstriped cape, Wild West meets Wall Street, what a wrap. I know a lot of naysayers don't see the charm of the hat but I predict that this look as a whole indicates a growing trend, le nouveau western.

Vogue Hommes International Fall/Winter 2009

I'd been thinking recently that I devote so much time on the site to one of Carine Roitfeld's jobs but I completely ignore the other: she is also editorial director for Vogue Hommes International. Assisting with editorial duties for both magazines are Olivier Lalanne, Frédérique Verley, Brune de Margerie, Anastasia Barbieri, and Emmanuelle Alt.

Girl With a Satchel features a lovely review of the current issue of Vogue Hommes International. I enjoyed that Carine states that she thinks styling men is “amusing and recreational.” Isn't this how they should always be viewed?

The cover model is actor Alden Ehrenreich shot by Bruce Weber. Ehrenreich can be seen in Francis Ford Coppola's latest film, Tetro. Coppola himself makes a brief appearance in an editorial titled "Private Views" along with seven other assorted people including Mikhail Barychnikov and Eva Herzigova. "Un Homme Un Style" features acteur Louis-Marie de Castelbajac, does anyone notice a theme?

One shoot that Carine styled for this issue is called "Plaisir Solitaire" and from the description this take on solitary pleasures promises to be très bizarre. The editorial "Héros" styled by Emmanuelle Alt and shot by Hedi Slimane sounds interesting... as do six pages with Alber Elbaz... Willem Dafoe photographed by Terry Richardson... this is turning into a must read, what a perfect time to tune in to Vogue Hommes International.
