I Want To Be A Roitfeld: Year Five

Today is 16 May, my favorite day of the year — I Want To Be A Roitfeld is five years old today! It is incredible to note that for half of a decade this site has been devoted to the Roitfeld family — Carine, Julia, and Vladimir — what adventures we have had! Best of all, the lily of the valley, or le muguet, is in bloom today, the most glorious herald of spring, the fragrance intoxicates. In case you are not in a position to smell the wondrous lily of the valley yourself, I picked you posies from my garden to celebrate the day.

First, a virtual bouquet for you, dear reader, for you are our raison d'être, without you we write for naught. Merci mille fois especially to those of you that dare to comment and offer your own opinion on our subjects.

Next, a bouquet for my incredible editorial team, Dara Block, Jascmeen Bush, Jessica Eritou, Renee Hernandez, Montse Ocejo, Bernie Rothschild, and Sarra Salib. I am continually inspired by all of you and I wholeheartedly thank each of you for contributing your talents to IWTBAR.

Finally, a special nosegay for my beloved Michael, Sweet Pea, and Walter, for the constant love and encouragement, ich liebe dich.

xx

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld For Eddie Borgo Fall/Winter 2013

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld For Eddie Borgo
By Montse Ocejo

When I hear the word "elegant," all of these beautiful images of ethereal women come to mind, Anouck Aimée, Romy Schneider, Françoise Hardy, with their magical eyes and mysterious airs, and, of course, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld — she is today's iconic image of French magic.

For his Fall/Winter campaign, Eddie Borgo selected Julia Restoin-Roitfeld; as the essence of his work as a jewelry designer is punk, strong and luxurious, and his Winter collection 2013 is really magical with dark tones, Julia perfectly fits this look. The results of this campaign are beyond elegant. With her hair in a chignon and a leather skirt, Julia looks stunning as she models the pieces of the collection.

Eddie Borgo's collection has beautiful scarab onyx necklaces, silver bracelets with jade, and outstanding pieces like the horn pendant and the moon neckpiece, each piece is unique and magical, especially the mask. Julia looks like a black swan wearing this piece.

The look is completed with really heavy smoky eyes and nude lips. Julia's green eyes and dark hair make a perfect match with the green undertones of the photos. The photos are by Paul Maffi, styled by Keegan Singh, hair by Akki, makeup by Kristin Gallegos, and art direction by Prim Chuensumran.

For more details about Eddie Borgo's inspiration for the collection, check out this interview with Keegan Singh for Streeters.

Julia Restoin Roitfeld For Stella

Julia Restoin Roitfeld For Stella
By Montse Ocejo

Julia Restoin Roitfeld models the autumn 2013 collections for the September issue of Stella as styled by Charlie Harrington. She looks more confident and sexier than ever, posing for British photographer Damon Baker, his images are know for being experimental and mysterious with heavy contrasts. The dark artistic style of Damon Baker is a perfect match for Julia's sense of style and they make an explosive combination full of sensuality. Julia shows her fierce and stronger side in this editorial, dressed in the latest autumn collections of Givenchy, Dior, Saint Laurent, Miu Miu, and Gucci, every piece of clothing reflects her personality.

In the first shot we see Julia in a a black and cerulean ombre dress by Gucci with Swarovski crystal jewelry.

The second look is a very sophisticated one in a white twill skirt and bustier with printed art by Warhol “Female Head” paired with leather pumps by Dior and finished with jewelry by Eddie Borgo.

In this one Julia is the definition of classic rock look in a black dress with metal nail detail by Versace. The jewelry that she wears is designed by Lara Bohinc.

Very sexy look in a pink jacquard jacket by Miu Miu, bra and knickers by Triumph, and jewelry by Kenneth Jay Lane.

Julia is rock and grunge personified in a complete look by Saint Laurent with shoes by Pierre Hardy.

In this shot, Julia works a modern vamp look in red and black printed floral wool shirt jacket, and shorts with a black chiffon skirt, all by Givenchy.

The make up is high impact and very glamorous with two looks created by Steven Canavan for Julia Restoin Roitfeld, smokey eyes and hot pink lips and very strong eyebrows and the other a beautiful sophisticated cat eye with very shiny and wet hair.

CR Fashion Book: High Performance

CR Fashion Book: High Performance
By Montse Ocejo

A dramatic beauty look exaggerated for the stage. A visual expression of character and emotion. A performer caught between spectator and spectacle. This is Carine Roitfeld's editorial "High Performance" for the second issue of CR Fashion Book.

The combination of the photography and the models made this a very mysterious editorial, the entire spread is shot in black-and-white with gray undertones with a really delicate contrast.

The editorial opens the doors to the past era of the early 20s in the time of the pioneers of Expressionist dance, this dancer explores the depth of the human physique and the shadows of the soul.

In these images by Sara Vanderbeek the models are dressed in classic pieces that flow with their movements, the photos capture the perfect moment, each expression is unique, each angle of the makeup and clothes combines perfectly with the body angles.

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.” ― MARTHA GRAHAM

Carine reminds us with this editorial that the greatest and most important thing in art is passion, that we should not be afraid to embrace and exaggerate the beauty to make everything unique, to use the reflection of our own shadows and dance with them to make a high performance.

Introducing… Montse Ocejo, Contributing Editor

I am thrilled to announce the newest member of the team here at I Want To Be A Roitfeld… Montse Ocejo, contributing editor! Montse is a loyal reader of IWTBAR and her enthusiasm for the Roitfeld family, especially Julia, is contagious. I am delighted that she will now be sharing her thoughts with all of us through these pages. Please take a moment to join me in warmly welcoming Montse!

Montse Ocejo
Contributing Editor

Hello, my name is Montse, I live in Mexico, I am an art therapist and longtime reader of this lovely blog so I am very excited and grateful to contribute. When I grew up I learnt to play the piano and my teacher introduced me to French music and film, my favorite film is A Man and a Woman by Claude Lelouch and my favorite composer is Francis Lai.

One of my biggest passions is photography, I love taking pictures of my friends and my family. I collect vintage photos, antiques, clothes, hats, and toys, I like going to bazaars looking for new things for my collection.

My biggest treasure is a Tiffany & Co's heart, a gift from my father, and my favorite piece of clothing is a vintage Chanel blouse. My fashion icons are Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Françoise Hardy. Right now I can't stop listening to Lana del Rey and I have a degree in Psychology.

Thank you so much and I hope you like my posts. Thanks to the lovely Kellina.
