Carine Roitfeld: Vision Accomplished

There is no end to Carine Roitfeld's drive; in her latest venture with Mercedes-Benz, she acts as both creative director and fashion designer for “Vision Accomplished: Fashion Film Spring/Summer 2014.″ Teaming with stylist Stephen Gan, photographers Max von Gumppenberg and Patrick Bienert, and model Sui He, Carine lends her exquisite eye to the luxury brand to envision quite the seductive setting for their new S-Class. Sui He revs up the action in a Little Black Dress designed by Carine Roitfeld accompanied by pumps adorned with the Mercedes-Benz hood ornament made especially for the shoot by Gianvito Rossi. When asked about the inspiration for her first design, Carine shared: "This dress has a perfect knee-length, it's a perfect sweater, it's black — something you can keep forever, but with a bit of a sensual look, because it very closely follows her whole body. It's very sculptural in a simple way — exactly like the car. I think this car is very sober, chic, and very expensive looking, so I was aiming to design something exactly the same for Sui He." We can only hope this amazing creation heralds the beginning of CR's fashion line, and, if so, permit me to say — put the pedal to the metal, girl!

Carine Roitfeld: The Ultimate Gold Collection

Carine Roitfeld shined in Cannes this week as she bestowed her golden touch upon "The Ultimate Gold Collection Fashion Show," the runway extravaganza that she organized as a special benefit for amfAR as part of their 20th Annual Cinema Against AIDS event. Many of the world's top models shimmered in custom metallic gowns, many of which were gold as advertised although some of the dresses were silver or even lilac; all of the gowns were auctioned as part of the evening, raising more than $1.5 million dollars. For herself, Carine Roitfeld chose a Comme des Garçons top and a Rick Owens skirt. When asked about her decision to feature the precious metal for this year's fundraiser, Carine explained: “I have themed the collection around the color gold — because it represents warmth, love and success…For me, this is really a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor. When you think of her in Cleopatra, you have this very powerful image of gold and beauty… I picked the gold theme because gold is extraordinary. Since it's the 20th year of this event, I thought people should walk away with an incredible memory."

Vogue Paris March 2011: Coeur A Corps Perdu

Vogue Paris March 2011: Coeur À Corps Perdu
By Kate Ringo Suzuki

With the passing of the throne at Vogue Paris, readers have witnessed a seismic rift in the presentation of Parisian chic. In one corner of the ring, we have Carine Roitfeld; in the opposite corner, Emmanuelle Alt. At the sound of the bell, let the knockdown commence...

Two years ago, we said adieu to Vogue Paris as we knew it with the last issue under the dominion of Carine Roitfeld, her March 2011 farewell featuring the lovely Saskia de Brauw on the cover. Within the plastic encasement which crackled when we ripped it off in anticipation and wonder, we saw Saskia appear in the editorial styled by Roitfeld entitled "Cœur à Corps Perdu," or in English, "Heart and Soul," along with blonde nymphet Daphne Groeneveld.

Against the backdrop of a lush and dreamy boudoir cast in soft romantic lighting, we peep at Saskia and Daphne while they play out an elegantly erotic fantasy. We have gone back in time to the free love of the 70s: they wear crocheted finery, straw hats, lace and silk lingerie, and strands of pearls that drape sensually over their nubile décolletage. The spread is a well done homage to the 1974 softcore erotic film entitled Emmanuelle. The film became so popular in France and later in America that it made soft porn chic if even for a moment in time. Have you seen it? The main character, Emmanuelle, is an eager and zealous student of lust: She is willing to be fucked by anyone in order to reach higher levels of pleasure with her lover, Mario.

Compare my thoughts on "Cœur à Corps Perdu" with my review of the editorial "Nouveau Genre" from the March 2013 issue of Vogue Paris.

Catching Up With The Roitfelds

I have a hodgepodge of items related to the Roitfelds that may interest you, so permit me to fire them at you in random order…

First the fantastic psychedelic chic of the lead photograph, captured by Olivier Zahm as the Roitfeld family dined at Omen in New York.

Note that The Little Black Jacket by Carine Roitfeld and Karl Lagerfeld publishes today — you have approximately five more hours in which to enter our essay contest for your chance to win a free copy of the book as well as a black IWTBAR tee.

An angelic image of Lara Stone is currently featured on CR Fashion Book, Carine gives wings to fashion yet again… Dare I say it is divine….

The date has changed for Carine Roitfeld's talk as part of the Creative Leaders program at the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in New York. The event will take place on Monday, 5 November.

The Little Black Jacket photography exhibit will travel to the Saatchi Gallery in London, on display 12–29 October.

Los Angeles brand Co has released a short film titled Tependris Rising to accompany their new collection. Illustrated by Konstantin Kakanias, the short focuses on the imaginary designer Mrs. Tependris with real life fashion stars such as Carine Roitfeld seated front row. Tependris Rising is directed by The Pain.

“CBS Sunday Morning” will air a profile of Carine Roitfeld on 9 September.
